The Acinaces was a dagger or short sword that originated in the Middle East, specifically ancient Persia. As the term is not well-defined in any historical texts, it is commonly associated with a curved blade, with some latin texts going so far as to label the Katana an Acninaces. Contemporary examinations show that it most likely referred to the straight, double-edged blade pictured above, which was typically made from bronze or iron.
