The hook sword or twin hooks is an unusual sword design, with a straight blade ending in a "hook", as well as a smaller point for thrusting on the end of the hilt and a blade on the side of the guard for blocking and slashing. These weapons may be used for advanced techniques, such as hooking the two blades together to extend their reach to about six feet. The multiple blades make the swords difficult to use and possibly dangerous to an untrained user. As such, the hook sword is not seen in period lists of ancient military armaments, however, its use was taught by the Shaolin school of martial arts.
