A mallet is a hammer-like tool with a cylindrical head, often made of wood or rubber. A wooden or rubber mallet is often used for lighter jobs than a metal-headed hammer such as a Claw Hammer, for instance, pounding in wooden pegs or stakes. Longer-handled mallets are used in the sport of croquet, and the term can also be applied to a "meat mallet" or "meat tenderizer", a spiked mallet for tenderizing meat.

Any of the varieties of mallet above can be used as an improvised blunt melee weapon.
