The Parang, also known as the mandau, is the chief weapon of the Dayak Headhunters. Although often compared to the machete, and it is often used as a tool, the Dayak people revere the parang as highly as a samurai would his katana.

The parang's blade is tempered iron, with the Dayak having learned the skills of metal-crafting roughly 2,450 years ago. The parang also commonly bears exquisite carvings, sometimes crafted from human bone.
