The Ukrainian Marine Corps is a branch of the Ukrainian Navy. Specialising in airborne and amphibious assaults, the Marines were founded in 1918 and have served in major conflicts like the Ukrainian War of Independence. The group's formation came about with the need for coastal defence and acting as a garrison force. Soon, a cavalry division was added to support the infantry effort. The cavalry consisted of attack helicopters, transport choppers, light tanks, and APCs. Recruits are trained in what they desire to specialise in and training lasts for 6 months. Today, conscription for the Marine Corps was taken down and members currently serve in Afghanistan.
