Neanderthals are the first and probably the only hominid species to evolve in Europe during the Pleistocene which is better known as the Ice Age. A sister species to modern humans, both of them derived from the same ancestor; Homo Heidelbergensis which originated from Africa and as some of them emigrated to Europe, they evolved into the most well-known cavemen of popular culture; the Neanderthals.
